the first trip to NYC (4)— renewing my passport

Posted on July 1st, 2008 in Arts & Humanities, Fashion/Style/Trends, New York, travel by jiajun925

This time my main business was to renew my passport.

The first step of this business was pretty stupid. We had to come to the city and submit the document by ourself. Chinese passport was the most useless one in the world. When you go any other country you have to get a visa. Why they want to make them look so great in the world.

I prepared everything at home. Every copy was ready, photo was ready too.

I submitted the stuff into the thingamajig lady in the window. She said my photos were no good. She said the pixel was too big and demanded me to go to the first floor to take photo again. I did not understand that so much and went to the first floor.

And then I just found the whatchamacallit Chinese business in the first floor.

sprouting

Posted on July 1st, 2008 in Arts & Humanities, health by jiajun925

I did some sprouting in the spring. It was green beans. Honey said it was very delicious. Of course it was because it was 100% organic. When we bought sprout from the market, it was hard to believe that it was organic because every sprout looked at the same size and so white. From the looking, we could know that it must not be organic. And I tried to do more, but none of the seeds I bought from the supermarket sprouts. I knew the seeds were not fresh. Sprouting needs fresh seeds.

the first trip to NYC (3)— taking taxi

Posted on July 1st, 2008 in Arts & Humanities, Business & Economy, Fashion/Style/Trends, New York, travel by jiajun925

After we arrived in the Penn station and came out from the train. It was super hot and high humidity in the station. It was like sauna. Everything looks old.

We came out of the station. we took taxi to the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in New York. Nobody knows when you were born as a Chinese, it is just the start of a nightmare.

After some minutes, we got there. It was $6. Honey gave the driver $10. He asked us if we had $1. Honey said no and said he could keep the left.

We walked out of the taxi. And then we heard the taxi was tapping the horn at us. I did not close the door. When I was in Japan, all the taxi we took had automatic doors, automatically opening and closing the door.

I thought and heard about that NYC is the biggest city in the world, why everything was so old?? from the train to the train station, to the taxi.

the first trip to NYC (2)—in the Amtrak

Posted on July 1st, 2008 in Arts & Humanities, New York, Society & Culture, travel by jiajun925

The train was pretty old style. Or it was just old. The ceiling was low.

It needed 3 hours to go to NYC from Albany. So the first one and half hour I fell into sleep. I felt a little bit cold, so I held honey’s hand to get warmed. Normally he is a heater in the summer and a refrigerator in the winter. But he said I burn him even though I was feeling cold.

It was pretty early in the morning. So not so many people were in the train.

After I woke up, funny thing was going to happen now.

I had to go to the bathroom in everyplace, of course in the train too. So I went. The door of the bathroom was so difficult to lock. I tried 6 or 7 times and finally got it locked.

After I came out, I was going to watch how other people dealing with the door of the bathroom. People could know that it was occupied or not or locked or not from the lamp outside of the bathroom.

A man went into. Gatya~ Gatya~, the sound of locking the door. Gatya~ Gatya~, the lamp went on and off, off and on, hahaha, he could not figure out how to lock the door. The lamp was off, after a little while, the man came out. It seemed that he did pee. without locking the door.

It was too convenient being a man. He need not make sure the door was closed.

I had a lot of fun.
