That was a beautiful story. In the story, Tao Qian showed an ideal world. In that world, there was no war. In old China, many times the country was separated to many small countries. Between the countries, there were always wars. Every emperor wanted to become the only one of China. Every country wanted to take control of the neighbors. For wars, it needed people to fight. The common people were the ones who had to take weapons to kill people. Also they were the ones who had to die in the wars.
In Chinese history, after separation for many times, it always was integrated to one. But there was a well-known saying, when the country was flourishing, the common civilian were the ones who suffers the all the bad thing. When the country was declining, the common civilian were still the ones who suffers the all the bad thing.
