when I was a kid, I heard something about that some villager tried to do some Taoist rites, and then when they heard the government coming, they had to run and hide up.

But I was thinking Taoism and Buddhism are different.

Maybe the villagers do care about what is Taoist(道士) and what is a monk(和尚,法师).

Spring Festival was a big thing for us. We had some traditional thing to do. There were lion dance (耍狮子) and dragon dance (耍龙灯).

In our village,  it was a lion dance. It would be held from January 1st-15sth.  For children, we always followed the team to go every house at night. Children always held the lantern (灯笼). The team went out at afternoon, and came back at middle night. Sometime we came back in the early morning of the next day. The main reason to follow the team was that I could get one or two pieces of candy from every house.

In every house, we would do lion dance, Kong fu. The whole time, the local band would play the background music. My father was so good at playing the drum, tam-tam, and two musical instruments.

Some time I wanted to play with that. But they did not allow me to do that. They said girls should not do that.

In my hometown, when there are some happy occasion, another part of the party was to invite some local troupe company to play huagu opera. The one that I watched many times was 刘海砍樵 and 刘海戏金蟾.
